Pain Management

Managing Pain and Keeping Your Pet Comfortable Are Our Greatest Concerns

Animals experience pain from a variety of sources. At Rockwall County Veterinary Clinic, we believe that animals feel pain and have problems associated with pain just like we do. Pain in animals is often complicated and failure to recognize the source can lead to a diminished quality of life. Pain management begins with determining the location of the pain, and then using diagnostic tools to confirm the cause. Once we have established these parameters, we can then determine the best method to treat the problem to decrease the pain and increase the health and comfort of the pet. Furthermore, we know that the more comfortable and active an animal is, the better its overall health will be. In fact, for an animal, pain is as much a Pet Pain Relief for Rockwall County Petsdisease as anything else in the way it affects the animalís quality of life.

Osteoarthritis, one of the major sources of chronic pain for older animals, is a prevalent part of pain management at our practice. We see this problem particularly with larger breeds and sporting dogs. Through continuing education, our staff veterinarians stay current on the latest in the treatment and management of this disease, whether it is nutraceuticals, like glucosamine or chondroitin supplements, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), or, if necessary, narcotics.
